Power of Choice In Home Remodeling

As a homeowner looking to remodel your home did you know you have the power of choice? Most remodelers do not want home owners to know the power of choice because they are only comfortable with one or two manufacturers in any product line-up, however at Residential Renovations we have taken the time to offer homeowners throughout Ohio and Michigan a different opportunity when it comes to Exterior Home Remodeling!

A great example of home remodeling options at Residential Renovations begins with the nine current manufacturers of metal roofs Residential Renovations is authorized to sell and install. Let us add - not all metal roofs are created equal in the sense of features and benefits or beauty and style!

Recently Residential Renovations added DECRA to their metal roof line-up of manufacturers. (Check out our press release at Residential Renovations Adds DECRA to Metal Roof Line-Up.) DECRA is considered the pioneer when it comes to stone coated steel roofing system providing ageless beauty, superior performance and lasting durability since 1957!

The DECRA stone coated steel roofing system is very unique to all other metal roofs in that the roof from the outside appearance looks like an asphalt roof shingle. Many homeowners have often been fooled as they drive by a DECRA metal roof because the stone coating is so beautiful! BUT, there is where metal leaves asphalt roofs behind. DECRA metal roofs are supported by a 50-year limited warranty, a 120 mph wind warranty, and all steel profiles are non-combustible Class A Fire rated with Class 4 Impact Resistance to UL 2218. Asphalt roofs cannot even come close to the features of a DECRA metal roof system!

Benefits of Hiring a Professional Remodeler

Balancing the desire for a professional job at the lowest possible price can be difficult. The fastest way to lose money or get less than quality work on a home remodel is by rushing through the contractor hiring process. Simply going with the cheapest estimate could end up costing more than you bargained for from time to actual dollars. As the old adage says, you get what you DON’T pay for.

Who you hire is considered the single most important part of the process, so take your time and choose carefully. The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) recommends every homeowner should get at least three estimates and a list of references with phone numbers. However, don’t forget, you need to actually call them! Ask them about completion time, budgets, material choices, and overall quality of work. You can download a full checklist from our website at under testimonials.

When interviewing the contractors on the phone be proactive before setting up an estimate appointment. Ask about their previous work, financial references, how long have their subcontractors been with them and how many jobs they have going on for starters. The answers to these questions will reveal their reliability, attention to detail and how smoothly the remodel will go – plus longevity suggests financial stability.

Face to face interviews are where you learn about their personality and if there is good chemistry to work together. Working with any contractor is like any good relationship – it requires strong communication and understanding. So do not be fooled by a smooth personality; especially if they require more than 10% down at the contract signing.

After you have three solid estimates finish your investigation by calling the BBB (Better Business Bureau) for more information about the contractor. Maybe even consider visiting a job site. But then you might want to start making your decision by first setting aside the low ball bid and then considering all the facts, including technical experience and project management for starters. Low ball bids may have surprise charges waiting to happen or require future repairs due to cutting corners.

In the end, choose your contractor carefully, but write your final contract wisely! Make sure to include payment schedule, insurance information, start date, contact numbers, specific materials, and completion date to ensure a successful remodel project from beginning to end. Remember when the remodel is completed you want to be happy with your investment, not reminded daily of all the frustration it brought you by not choosing the right contractor.

Siding: The Beautiful Backdrop to Your Life

“Well, we’re not designers. But we know what we like. We took our time and got input from friends and our home remodeler. We also spent a lot of time with product brochures and on the Residential Renovations website.

Our home is traditional, so we went with a siding in a color from the palette that we thought was timeless and tasteful. But while we were planning our project, we were happy to find a color we liked that went well in the neighborhood too. Something everyone would admire, and ENVY too!”

Residential Renovations is now proud to offer Innerglass Interior Storm Windows!

Innerglass interior storm windows are significantly more effective at insulating your home and lowering your heating and cooling bills than a traditional outside storm window. In fact, the Innerglass window is 5 times tighter than an exterior storm because the outside storm must be ventilated to get rid of the condensation that has already happened. In contrast, our interior storm is so tight it provides a vapor barrier on the warm side that stops the condensation in the first place.
